The existing building was narrow and in poor shape, leading the design to emphasize a vertical expansion. The material choices of the project—corrugated metal siding, concrete floors—focused on complementing the existing building and connecting the project to the industrial character of the neighborhood. A steel handrail that connects the levels of the project was fabricated in sections and welded in place on site.
