Brooklyn Heights Brownstone
Brooklyn, New York
2018
This narrow sixteen-foot-wide home had fallen into disrepair. Many of the historic plaster moldings and wood casings had been removed or were covered in layers of paint. The landmarked building’s narrow width pushed the project rearward; the gut renovation included a two-story rear yard extension with large windows which allow natural light into the home’s interior. An all-white modern kitchen sits in contrast to the restored decorative moldings and historic details throughout the rest of the house. A new staircase leads from the kitchen to the family room below; the rebuilt original staircase leads to bedrooms on the upper floors. Material choices include stained American white oak for cabinetry and flooring and Italian white marble for the kitchen. Custom door hardware accentuates the classic details within the interiors.
